MU clinches 1st runner-up at National Women Student Parliament

Manipur University's women students made history by securing the 1st Runner-Up position at the 4th Association of Indian Universities (AIU) National Women Student Parliament 2025-26, a landmark achievement celebrated by the institution.
The journey started with auditions organised by the Office of the Dean of Students' Welfare, Manipur University, drawing enthusiastic participation from across departments.
This surge highlighted rising interest among women students in leadership, dialogue, and policy-making platforms.
The selection was done by a jury comprising Prof Ch Ibohal Singh (Dean, Students' Welfare), Dr Kh Robindro Singh (Cultural Co-ordinator), Dr Rajkumar Suresh Singh (former Cultural Co-ordinator), and Dr Kh Radhapiyari Devi (Department of Earth Science).
After careful evaluation, three students were selected to represent the university: Jessy Thiyam (Department of SEAS), Lepsopthei Kasar (Department of Chemistry), and Naorem Chelsia (Department of Political Science).
Guided by team manager Dr Kh Radhapiyari Devi, the trio competed at the national event hosted by Chaudhary Bansi Lal University from April 3 to 5, 2026.They shone through preliminary, quarter-final, and semi-final rounds, advancing to the finals against Lovely Professional University.
Their sharp presence of mind and confidence during direct interjection debates underscored the power of young women in dynamic parliamentary discourse.
Centered on the theme "Developed India 2047: Role of Women"', the event united delegates from 22 universities nationwide, emphasizing women's pivotal role in national progress through debate and decision-making.
Lovely Professional University took top honors, followed by Manipur University in 1st Runner-Up, Chaudhary Bansi Lal University in 2nd Runner-Up, and Jiwaji University in 3rd.Lepsopthei Kasar earned the Best President Award for her poised and responsible handling of proceedings.
Dr Khumukcham Robindro hailed the feat as proof of women students' growing prowess on national stages.
"This inspires broader participation at Manipur University, building leadership, confidence, and constructive dialogue toward a developed India", he said.
The university community anticipates even stronger showings ahead as more
young women step up to lead.
