Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, September 07 2021: For the first time after 137 days (four and half months), the state recorded zero Covid death on Tuesday as government bulletins reported 282 new positive cases out of 3539 samples tested without any fatalities in the last 24 hours.

However, there is no report of any deaths which the state level Covid-19 death audit committee classify as non-Covid deaths and there are chances of such deaths occurring in the last 24 hours.

Sources said that death of patients in ICU following Covid infection are classified as non-Covid once their test results came negative of the infectious disease though WHO guidelines clearly state that there should be no period of complete recovery from Covid-19 between illness and death.

Meanwhile, Tuesday witnessed a slight reduction in the daily positivity rate at 7.97 per cent against Monday's 9.2 per cent.

The average positivity rate for the current month is 8.51 per cent against 12.39 per cent recorded in August.

Though the positivity rate remains in single digit, Kamjong district recorded 25 per cent positivity rate and Pherzawl, which is the least affected district, recorded 21.4 per cent.

At the same time, 8 patients are also on oxygen support in different CCCs.

As of Tuesday evening, 547 beds including 101 ICU/HDU beds are available in different hospitals.
