Imphal, September 24 2025:
Cancer Survivors of Manipur (CaSoM) in collaboration with Cancer Care Institute & Research Centre organised a Cancer Awareness cum Early Detection Camp at the premises of Progressive Artists Laboratory (PAL) in Lamboi Khongnangkhong today.
During the camp, various diagnostic tests were conducted for free with the assistance of the National Health Mission (NHM) .
Speaking at the event, CaSOM secretary Rita Khomdram said that according to the World Health Organisation (WHO), global cancer cases are projected to rise by 77 percent to approximately 35 million by 2050, a significant increase from the 20 million new cases in 2022 .
"Key drivers for this increase include population growth and aging, along with rising exposure to risk factors such as tobacco, alcohol, obesity, and air pollution", she added.
She continued that the rate of cancer cases has also increased in Manipur, and collective efforts are needed to address this global problem.
Rita asserted that the camp was conducted with the aim to screen people for early signs of cancer, as early detection significantly increases the chances of successful treatment.
