Imphal, January 24 2026:
N Bandana, the Director of the Manipur State Rural Livelihoods Mission (MSRLM), has announced that the number of local youths securing jobs in Japan has increased after completing Japanese language training at Manipur University.
The announcement was made during an awareness cum interaction programme on "Japanese Language Training Course at Manipur University", held today at the Bashikhong Panthoibi Bazar community hall.
The programme was organised by the Thongju Apunba Women Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited in collaboration with MSRLM and the Department of RD & PR, Government of Manipur.
Speaking on the occasion, N Bandana highlighted the challenge of low Government and private sector job availability in Manipur despite a high literacy rate, which negatively impacts the State's economy.
"To mitigate this, the Skill Development Ministry is facilitating employment opportunities in Japan", said Bandana while encouraging youths to take advantage of the 8-month Japanese language course at Manipur University, which began this January.
She asserted that the training will provide a pathway to work abroad and contribute to the State's economy, rather than relying solely on Government employment.
"Local youths should take advantage of the opportunity to work in various sectors of Japan such as healthcare, hospitality, and agriculture by learning the Japanese language", she added.
Bandana also informed that a MoU between the Indian and Japanese Governments is already in place to support this endeavor.
Key officials present at the event included Masot Zimik, SEO, NSDC; Yash Taretiya, Account Manager, NSDC International; and Nasoshram Basanta, District Mission Manager, MSRLM Imphal East.
