Ukhrul, June 12 2025:
Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has called for the harshest penalties for those responsible for the brutal murder of AS Thotshang and is demanding a swift and logical resolution to the case.
Thotshang, 45, son of AS Chinaongam from Tashar village but was residing in Hamleikhong, A-Block, Hungpung, was found murdered in the room of one Abiz Uddin, who worked as a mechanic at Mona Workshop, Awungtang Hungpung - covered with a blanket in a pool of blood - on May 22, after being reported missing since May 20, the day the recent state-level Shirui Lily festival began.
The victim was a teacher at T Shimin Government Lower Primary School in Tashar village, Ukhrul.

On May 20, Abiz Uddin called Thotshang to his house and drove away in Thotshang's white Alto K10 (MNO3P 5052) towards Mona Workshop.
Briefing the media in his office on Thursday, TNL president Sword Vashum stated that as the investigation into the cold-blooded murder got underway, it has become evident that the accused Abiz Uddin has confessed to the police that he killed the victim.
He also said that the involvement of Mona, the owner of the motor workshop, has also come to light.
"It is now confirmed that Abiz Uddin murdered the victim by slitting his throat, as admitted, and Mona has been identified as the mastermind behind the murder," said the TNL president, adding that Mona's previous criminal history has also surfaced in connection with this case.
Vashum expressed his suspicion that the murder may be part of an organised crime, suggesting that others could be involved, and urged the investigation team to identify all individuals involved.
He called on the authorities to expedite the investigation process, assuring that TNL would offer full support to help bring the case to a logical conclusion at the earliest.
"We demand the strictest punishments for all those responsible for this crime and stand ready to assist the authorities throughout the legal proceedings to ensure justice is served," he said, insisting that the culprits should not be granted bail under any circumstances.
At the same time, Vashum urged the government to provide adequate ex-gratia compensation and a suitable job for the victim's family, as Thotshang was the sole breadwinner.
Reiterating TNL's recent directive prohibiting anyone involved in the murder from residing within its jurisdiction, he also expressed concern over the significant influx of non-locals in the district under the guise of business and livelihood.
He called upon the local community to remain vigilant regarding the presence of unaccounted non-locals who lack proper verification of their credentials, urging caution in granting them residency.
"It is deeply unfortunate that the heinous murder of Thotshang was perpetrated by non-locals who came here to earn a living.
They show no respect for the locals or our community.
We must prevent such incidents from occurring in the future," he stated.
Vashum also announced that starting June 15, TNL will begin verifying the status of non-locals in an effort to preempt such unwanted incidents in the district.
