Thoubal, April 10 2026:
Denouncing the inhumane killing of two children and the injury of their mother in a bomb attack at Tronglaobi, along with the subsequent firing by security forces that reportedly led to civilian casualties and injuries, residents of Yairipok on Friday staged a protest march demandingjustice.
The march, organised under the banner "Kill Us, We are coming here to Die, No one can Stop Us, No Death No Action, Take our Blood Not our Land" by the Nongpok Sekmai Apunba Lup (NSAL), saw participation from several local clubs, organisations, Meira Paibi groups and volunteers from the area.
Protesters initially gathered at Yairipok Siphai Leikai and began marching towards Thoubal along the Yairipok-Thoubal road to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister.
However, the rally was stopped midway at Yairipok Huidrom Leikai Leirak Machin by Thoubal district police led by Superintendent of Police Manoj Prabhakar, along with Additional SP Devendra Hijam and other officials, citing the imposition of curfew.
Following the intervention, the protesters returned to Yairipok Keithel.
Later, the SP and other officials also reached the site, where the demonstrators submitted their memorandum, addressed to the Chief Minister, through SP Manoj Prabhakar.
Speaking to media persons, NSAL president Ananda Laishram stated that the protest was organised jointly by local bodies to voice outrage over the recent incidents.
He said the march was halted due to curfew restrictions, prompting them to hand over the memorandum to the SP for onward submission.
He further expressed anguish over the loss of innocent lives and warned that the people would intensify their agitation if justice is not delivered.
He appealed to civil society groups, including Meira Paibis and local organisations, to remain united and continue peaceful protests without losing resolve.
Echoing similar sentiments, secretary of Yairipok Apunba Meira Paibi Lup, Matouleibi Maibam, criticised the government for its failure to ensure public safety.
She urged both the State and Central governments to take immediate steps to end the bloodshed in the State.
She demanded the arrest of those responsible for the killing of the children and called for the suspension and withdrawal of the CRPF unit allegedly involved in firing at civilians.
