'Chahi Taret Khuntakpa Ningsing Thouram' observed, tributes paid to martyrs

The "Chahi Taret Khuntakpa Ningshing Thouram" was held today at Manipur Press Club in Majorkhul, jointly organised the Federal Students' Organisation, Kangleipak (FESOK) and Manipuri Department, Manipur University.
The solemn event was graced by dignitaries, including Prof Rajen Toijamba, former Head, Manipuri Department, Manipur University and Convenor, Manipuri Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi; Prof Loitongbam Birjita Devi, Head, Manipuri Department, Manipur University; Dr Naorem Sanatomba, Assistant Professor, Manipuri Department, Manipur University; and Kanghujam Amarjit, president, FESOK.
The event commenced with the offering of floral tribute to Maharaja Gambhir Singh.
Delivering the keynote address, FESOK vice president Rikesh Mangang said that the 'Chahi Taret Khuntakpa Ningsing Thouram' was observed to honor the martyrs, reflect on the devastating period of the Burmese occupation, and promote unity among the Manipuri people.
"This day commemorates a dark period in the history of Manipur from 1819 to 1826 when the region was occupied by Burmese forces" he added.
Stating that the day serves as a poignant reminder of the historical consequences of disunity and foreign occupation, Riskeh emphasized the critical need for unity among the people of Manipur to protect their shared identity and future.
FESOK anti drug abuse secretary Kshetrimayum Naocha and other members of the organisation were also present at the event.
Meanwhile, a solemn event to honor the valor and sacrifice of Maharaja Gambhir Singh was held today at the Maharaja Gambhir Singh Memorial Complex in Langthabal.
The event was jointly organised by Thawai Mirel, Meitei Langon and Arambai Tenggol to commemorate the 192nd death anniversary of Maharaja Gambhir Singh.
The day began with a public rally from Langthabal Kunja highlighting the historic role played by Maharaja Gambhir Singh in restoring Manipur's sovereignty after the Seven Years' Devastation (1819-1826).The main function was held at the memorial site in Langthabal, where participants offered floral tributes at the statues of Maharaja Gambhir Singh, Maharaja Nara Singh and Sana Herachandra.
RK Meghan, former chairman of UNLF was also present at the event.
