Ukhrul, April 30 2024:
The re-poll conducted at five polling stations in Ukhrul district for the second phase polling of the 18th Lok Sabha elections on Tuesday concluded peacefully, registering an impressive overall voter turnout of 80.58 percent.
The re-poll was held at four polling stations under Ukhrul assembly constituency namely, 44/20-Shangshak (A), 44/36-Ukhrul (A), 44/41-Ukhrul (D-1), and 44/50-Ukhrul (F) as well as 45/14-Chingai under Chingai AC.
The re-poll was necessitated following reports of destruction of EVMs at the polling stations during the second phase polling on April 26.The voter turnout at individual booths varied significantly, with 44/41-Ukhrul (D-1) recording the highest at 94.09 per cent.
Other booths also witnessed notable participation, with 44/20-Shangshak (A) registering 53.13 per cent, 44/36-Ukhrul (A) 79.73 per cent, 44/50-Ukhrul (F) 79.78 per cent, and 45/14-Chingai 86.28 per cent.
Enthusiastic voters turned out in large number, with females outnumbering their male counterparts.
The polling stations have total of 4146 eligible voters, including 2536 females.
Polling commenced promptly at 7 am and proceeded smoothly, with voters actively exercising their democratic rights.
At the time of filing this report, polling personnel from all the polling stations including those from Chingai AC had safely reached the designated strong room.
SENAPATI: The re-poll conducted at 47/33-Oinam A-1 ended peacefully at 4 pm on Tuesday.
Addressing media persons, Nodal Officer for Complaint Redressal & Voter PP Ronald credited the public's active participation for making the re-poll a peaceful and successful one.
Out of the total 663 electorates at the polling station, 561 cast their votes with a margin of 84.6 per cent.
It may be noted that voting commenced in the midst of tight security with two companies of the CAPF and 200 state armed police.
A young elector pointed out that the youth are taking active participation in the election and further urged the candidates to focus on creating job opportunities to the youth and providing skill development for promotion of the youth belonging to the region after winning the election.
