Block Level Kut celebrated

Imphal, October 29 2013: Stating that Kut is not only a festival of the Chin-Kuki-Mizo group but a celebration of all the communities of the state, MLA Ginsuanhao Zou has expressed confidence that various groups or clans of Kuki community will be united as one body some day.

The MLA made the observation while speaking as chief guest of the block level Kut celebration, 2013 at Saikul Block Ground, which was celebrated ahead of the upcoming post harvest festival on November 1 .

It is said that the first Kut celebrating village was Gangpijang in 1961 while the state level Kut celebration started in 1989.The state government recognized the festival in 1990 while the Indian government recognized it as the 65th festival in India.

MLA Ginsuanhao Zou appealed the people to celebrate Kut festival in a motive to bring peace and cultural unity among the people and not just celebrate it for the sake of celebration.

He further called upon the people not to look at programmes like Miss Kut contest in a different way and said that he believes that through these events the Kut celebration can be made known to the world.

Appreciating the organising committee's unity in organizing such meaningful programmes, he invited all the Saikul people to come and participate in the upcoming Kut festival on November 1 as well.

MLA Saikul A/C, Yamthong Haokip, who attended the celebration as guest of honour, urged the people to work more and talk less so that they they can develop Saikul.

Even though Saikul has been a backward region compared to the other parts of the state, someday the people will walk on black topped roads if civil organizations and people unite in bringing development, the MLA said.

Many programmes like Miss Kut beauty pageant and music were the main attraction of the celebration.

Around 5000 people including representatives of various civil organisations and village chiefs participated in the celebration during which Saikul block chiefs were also honour with presentation of traditional blankets.
