Bishnupur, May 16 2026:
To prevent disturbance to migratory birds roosting in the Loktak Lake during winters, LED-assisted night fishing and use of loudspeakers will be prohibited from next year, said Waikhom Romabai, Divisional Forest Officer, Bishnupur Forest Division.
The DFO made the statement during the valedictory ceremony of a three-day capacity building programme on "Hospitality, Eco-Tourism and Home Stay" under the Raising & Accelerating MSME Performances (RAMP) Scheme held at Thanga Ngaram.
Speaking on the occasion, the DFO highlighted the important role of locals in ensuring that tourist destinations are well-maintained.
In Manipur, tourists visit hotspots like the Loktak Lake and Keibul Lamjao.
However, both people of the State and tourists have engaged in activities detrimental to the ecological balance of such tourist destinations.
The capacity building programme was organised to reinforce the role of local residents in preserving the Lotak lake, said the Divisional Forest Officer of Bishnupur Forest Division.
The programme was organised by Divisional Forest Officer, Bishnupur Forest Division and Department of Textiles, Commerce and Industries, Government of Manipur under a project of the World Bank, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India along with the cooperation of 26 local stakeholders.
The closing ceremony was attended by wildlife activist Elangbam Premjit, social activist Oinam Maipakchao and RFO Moirang Range RK Sadananda.
As part of the event, certificates were distributed to the participants of the capacity building programme.
