State logs 91.37 pc success rate, Govt schools 82.32 pc

The results of the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination, conducted by Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM), were declared Monday afternoon at the conference hall of the Board in Babupara.
The overall pass percentage this year stands at 91.37 per cent, which is comparatively lower than last year's pass percentage of 93.03 per cent.
Around 82.32 per cent of the students from government schools scaled the annual test, 91.38 per cent of students from aided schools and 94.15 per cent of student from private schools script success in the examination.
Altogether 37,502 students were enrolled for the examination, of which 36,943 appeared.
A total of 33,755 students passed the examination, with 16,835 male students emerging successful compared to 16,930 female students.
This year, the number of male students who passed was around 91.50 per cent, while that of female students was 91.24 per cent.
The examination was shelved in 2021 due to outbreak of the coronavirus, with all the class X students declared as passed whereas in 2022, the pass percentage of female students was much higher than their male counterparts.
In this year's HSLC examination, around 8404 students from government schools sat for the exam and 6918 passed.
For aided schools, 1207 students appeared for the exam and 1103 passed and from private schools, 27,332 students appeared the exam, with 25,734 passing.
Compared to last year, the pass percentage of students from government, aided and private schools dropped this year.
Meanwhile, of the 535 IDP students enrolled for the examination, 533 appeared and 474 passed this year, recording pass percentage of 88.93 per cent.
Chandel district topped the list with 100 per cent pass of IDP students, while Jiribam district ranked at the bottom with only 33.33 per cent.
No IDP student enrolled from Senapati, Kamjong, Pherzawl, Noney and Tengnoupal districts.
Among the 16 districts, Kakching topped the rankings with 98.48 pass percentage, while Pherzawl district ranked the lowest with 56.76 per cent.
Noney ranked second with 97.78 per cent, followed by Thoubal at 97.3 per cent, Tengnoupal 96.99 per cent, Chandel 95.95 per cent, Bishnupur 94.96 per cent, Imphal East 93.07 per cent, Ukhrul 91.03 per cent, Imphal West 90.96 per cent, Senapati 87.83 per cent, Churachandpur 86.03 per cent, Kangpokpi 85.83 per cent, Kamjong 82.9 per cent, Tamenglong 67.84 per cent, and Jiribam at 65.63 per cent.
As the grading system was adopted for HSLC exam since last year, the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of a student would be calculated by adding the grade points of six subjects and dividing the total by six.
If one wants to know the nominal percentage of the marks obtained for a subject, the grade point of the subject is to be multiplied by 9.5.To know the grade of a subject, if a student secures marks in the range of 91-100, his/her grade would be Al and the grade point 10.0 .
For the 81-90 mark range, the grade would be A2 and grade point 9.0; for 71-80 mark range, it would be B1 grade and grade point 8.0; for 61-70 mark range, B2 grade and 7.0 grade point; for 51-60 mark range, C1 grade and 6.0 grade point; for 41-50 mark range, C2 grade and 5.0 grade point; for 33-40 mark range, D grade and 4.0 grade point; and for 21-32 and 00-20 mark range, it would E1 and E2 grade and the student would be considered to have failed.
D is the lowest passing grade.
The result declaration was attended by Education (S) secretary Naorem Praveen as chief guest, BSEM chairman Akham Joykumar as president, Education (Schools) director Ng Bhogendra Meitei, BSEM secretary Jitelal Sharma, and BSEM controller of examinations Ayam Thoi Singh as guests of honour.
