National Education Policy deliberated

Imphal, April 04 2023: A consultative meeting to prepare syllabi and curricula for higher secondary level in line with National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 was held at the State Guest House at Sanjenthong today.

Organised by the Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM), the consultative meeting was attended by the Council's Chairman T Ojit, Secretary Ch Biren, College Development Council, Manipur University retired Director Th Ratankumar and Manipur College retired Professor Elangbam Iboyaima.

Teachers of schools and colleges and students also attended the meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, COHSEM Chairman T Ojit said the National Education Policy 2020 was developed with the aim to make it one of the most effective and advanced education policies.

The NEP 2020 will address the shortfall of earlier policies and it will add fun to learning and impart quality teaching and learning.

The NEP has provisions to impart teaching to students upto Class VIII in their mother tongue/local language that they are familiar with.

While this will make the students understand better, it will also help promote the mother tongue/local language, he said.

He added that the NEP also focuses on providing vocational courses to students and it will help improve the economy.

In order for the State to adapt to and adopt the Nationwide changes brought about by the new education policy, the consultative meeting was organised to prepare curricula and syllabi anew to reflect the values of the NEP, said T Ojit.

He stated that the decisions taken in the consultative meeting will be converted into action by the Council at the earliest.

The consultative meeting was held in two sessions with Manipur College retired Professor Elangbam Iboyaima moderating the first session and College Development Council, MU retired Director Th Ratankumar moderating the second session.

In the first session, Manipur College Assistant Professor Dr S Birjit spoke on "Open Learning for Higher Secondary with reference to NEP 2020", DM College of Teachers Education Assistant Professor Kh Dineshkumar spoke on "Empowering the content of the curriculum through divergent scope for measuring demand skill" and L Sanoi College Nambol Principal Dr W Jotirmoy spoke on "Child Oriented Examination" .

In the second session, Hindi Teachers Training College Principal Dr N Sanjoy spoke on "Enabling ITC for blended learning in the secondary school", SK Women's College Nambol Principal Dr W Robindro spoke on "Importance of NEP 2020 and its implementation to higher secondary level", GP Women's College Associate Professor Dr M Suresh spoke on "NEP, 2020 - its pros and cons in higher secondary education" and Lilong Haoreibi College Principal Dr Raheijuddin Sheikh spoke on "Integration of vocational education in higher secondary level through NEP 2020" .
