13 hurt in college bus mishap in Ukhrul

Ukhrul, April 04 2023:
At least four students were majorly injured and nine others had minor injuries in a road accident near Leishiphung Christian Hospital at Khararphung in Ukhrul district.
The accident happened around 10.20 am on Tuesday, when a college bus carrying students and staff of William Pettigrew College, suddenly lost control and tipped over onto its side, sources said.
The students were on their way to the college when the accident occurred.
Emergency services from Ukhrul police and Assam Rifles were immediately despatched to the scene, where they found the bus lying on its side by the road.
While all 13 injured had been taken to LCH hospital for first aid treatment, a few of them were discharged later in the evening.
The cause of the accident was not immediately established but mechanical failure was believed to be behind the mishap, sources added.
Meanwhile, Somsai Battalion of IGAR (South) reportedly provided recovery vehicle and dozer to retrieve the bus from the accident site.
According to PRO IGAR (S), timely intervention of AR ensured in resumption of traffic.
Ukhrul police and the locals extended their gratitude for the aid extended by AR and urged for more such cooperation and assistance, added the PRO.
