Clubs warn of banning Phayeng passenger services

A public meeting held at Phayeng Pathar Bazar on Tuesday has resolved to prohibit passenger services in Phayeng area unless the Transport Department resolves the dispute between two auto-rickshaw societies operating in the area.
In a release, Phayeng Khunou Cultural & Development Club informed that the meeting was organised by Imphal to Phayeng Mini & Medium Transport Cooperative Society Limited on Tuesday to discuss issues related to limited auto-rickshaw passenger services in Phayeng.
The meeting was attended by representatives of eight Shinglups' of Phayeng village, local clubs and Phayeng Apunba Umang Committee members, among others, it added.
The release mentioned that during the meeting, auto-rick-shaw owners who are plying their services under Imphal to Phayeng Mini & Medium Transport Cooperative Society Limited raised a complaint regarding their inability to cany out services as they are being hounded by Imphal Traffic Police, whereas, the auto-rickshaw owners under Siroy Society, who carry passengers from Imphal to Phayeng PHC are being allowed to carry on their services.
During the meeting, the Siroy Society members were unable to show the requisite documents for operating their service.
As such, it was resolved that Transport Department should look into the matter at the earliest, otherwise, the local bodies will ban passenger services of both the societies, it further maintained.
