RIMS rTMS machine operational

A 'Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) Machine', a treatment technique that uses a magnetic field to influence brain activity, has been inaugurated on Tuesday at the Department of Psychiatry, RIMS by RIMS director Prof H Priyoshakhi Devi.
The machine was inaugurated in the presence of RIMS Hospital medical superintendent Prof N Sanjib Singh, RIMS Academic dean Prof Brogen Singh Akoijam and Psychiatry department HoD Dr S Gojendra Singh along with faculty members as well as students of Department of Psychiatry and staff of RIMS.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr S Gojendra informed that RIMS is the first government hospital in the entire North East India to have an rTMS machine and exuded confidence that it will aid in the treatment of patients suffering from depression, stroke, OCD, insomnia and other mental conditions.
While estimating treatment fee/cost involving rTMS machine per session in private institution to Rs 5000-6000, he announced that RIMS will take a decision to keep rate for the same service at the minimum or provide for free to the public.
In his address, former HoD Dr RK Lenin thanked authorities concerned for hearing the department's plea and installing the rTMS machine, stating it will help in more effective treatment of patients as well as in research purposes to the students.
He also addressed the need for infrastructure development of the Psychiatry ward.
Speaking during the formal function held at Dr Kamal Hall, RIMS director Prof H Priyoshakhi Devi commended Department of Psychiatry for rendering quality and satisfactory service despite having less faculty members.
She further pledged to consult with authorities concerned and do the needful for upgrading the Psychiatry ward.
