Imphal, July 01 2025:
Eastern Liangmai Chief/Chairman Association (ELCCA) issued a strongly worded statement warning against the proposed construction of the so-called "German Road" or "Tiger Road" aimed at connecting Kangpokpi with Churachandpur through Naga ancestral territories.
In its press statement, the association said that names like German, Tiger, or Lion Road are "fabricated" and have no legitimacy in the history, tradition or land records of the Liangmai people.
ELCCA declared that no such road exists in the past, present or future within their ancestral lands, and called any attempt to impose such "fictitious infrastructure projects" an act of aggression and blatant provocation.
The statement asserted that any forceful or deceitful intrusion into Naga ancestral domains under the pretext of development would be met with "unrelenting resistance" .
ELCCA warned that such actions risk triggering unrest and violence, potentially leading to conflict.
"Those who choose to ignore this warning will bear full responsibility for the consequences," it said.
ELCCA called on the Ministry of Home Affairs to act with "wisdom and urgency" and to reject what it described as the "Kuki's wish-list" .
The association cautioned that supporting such proposals would amount to a "reckless endorsement of territorial encroachment" and would severely damage fragile inter-community relations.
Further, the Liangmai chiefs demanded the immediate dismantling of all Suspension of Operation (SoO) camps of Kuki militant groups located near Naga-inhabited areas.
The presence of these camps poses a serious threat to peace and remains a constant source of intimidation and insecurity, it added.
Stating that Eastern Liangmai is a peace-loving community, ELCCA said that it will not remain passive in the face of "deceit, provocation, or occupation", and will defend its land "by all means necessary" .
