3 Ithai sluice gates opened, many areas flooded

Many areas in Imphal and its periphery low-lying localities face water-logging due to incessant rainfall since the past few days while majority of the rivers across the state are flowing near or above flood level even as three sluice gates of Ithai Barrage have been opened from Friday morning.
Incessant rainfall across the state in the last few days led to gradual increase in water levels of almost all the rivers flowing across the state with some major rivers flowing in full spate by Friday morning.
Amidst the continuing downpour and reports of breaching river banks at some locations, those resident nearby river banks have been advised to be vigilant while local volunteers started collecting flood-control tools and materials.

Due to heavy rainfall in Senapati district, residents inspected river banks on Friday and prepared bamboo and bamboo sheets to mend breached river banks.
Residents of Bamon Leikai Bachaspatimayum Leirak in Imphal East district strengthened river bank using bamboo sheets at portion left incomplete during construction of retaining wall while water-logging affected movement of people in many localities in Sagolband AC.
As per report of the India Meteorological Centre, Kamjong district received highest rainfall till 8.30 am Friday recording 106mm followed by Ukhrul district with 83.5mm.The report also mentioned that Chandel district received 30.1mm rainfall on Friday morning as Thoubal and Senapati districts received 36.2mm and 52.1mm rainfall respectively.
Churachandpur district recorded 35.7mm rainfall at the said time while rainfall received at Moirang was 22.5mm and Imphal airport 33mm.The report further mentioned that Tamenglong district received 50.8mm rainfall while Bishnupur district recorded 24.4mm rainfall.
Till 8.30 am Friday, rainfall recorded in Sainik School, Pangei was 26mm, Lamsang 40mm, Tujangvaichong in Kangpokpi district 15.5mm, Lilong 32.5mm and Yaral-pat in Imphal East district 26.5mm.As water level of almost all the rivers across the state have risen sharply, three sluice gates of the Ithai barrage were opened on Friday morning.
As per a report of flood contrdl cell of water resources department, Imphal river and Nambul river are flowing near the warning level as of 10am Friday at Minuthong bridge and Thong Nambonbi bridge respectively.
Respective warning level and high flood level for Imphal river at Minuthong bridge are 785.9 metres and 788.4 metres above mean sea level but water level at the bridge was recorded 785.5 metres at 10am Friday.
Nambul river currently flows above warning level of 781.025 metre of 10am Friday at Thong Nambonbi bridge though respective warning and flood level at the bridge are 781.175 and 781.75 metres.
Nambol river too is flowing above the warning level at 772.850 metre as per reading at 10am Friday, the report mentioned.
Meanwhile, Ithai barrage recorded water level at high flood level at 769.32 metres above mean sea level as of Friday morning though warning, flood and high flood levels at Ithai barrage are 769.28,769.30 and 769.32 metres respectively.
In view of the rising water level at the barrage, authorities opened three out of five gates of the barrage from Friday morning.
