"Farmers' Conclave cum Kisan Mela" held at ICAR complex

A "One Day Farmers' Conclave cum Kisan Mela" was successfully conducted today at the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) complex in Lamphelpat.
The event was jointly organised by the staff of ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region Manipur Centre and ICAR Krishi Vigyan Kendras of Imphal West, Ukhrul, Tamenglong, Chandel and Churachandpur.
It was attended by dignitaries, including Peter Salam, Director, Department of Agriculture, Manipur; K Debdutta Sharma, Director, Department of Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Manipur; Dr Ch Basudha Devi, HoRC, ICAR Manipur Centre and Dr-Vinay Kumar Mishra, Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya.
Speaking on the occasion, K Debdutta said that wetlands are valuable resources for producing aquatic products, serving as nurseries for fish and supporting diverse fisheries and aquaculture.
Pointing out that there are many wetlands in Manipur, he called for judicious use of wetlands to generate income sustainably, ensuring long-term ecological health while supporting local communities.
Peter Salam highlighted the impact of climate change on agriculture and the need for technological reforms to ensure food security and sustainability.
Farmers from Imphal West, Ukhrul, Tamenglong, Chandel and Churachandpur also opened stalls at the event showcasing their products.
