Imphal, January 24 2026:
The brutal murder of Mayanglambam Rishikanta, a plastic engineer, in Churachandpur district has sparked widespread outrage, with organisations like the All Manipur Nupi Marup (AMNM) and the Indigenous Development Mission (IDM) demanding justice and blaming the State Government and security forces for their failure to prevent the incident.
Rishikanta, a resident of Kakching Khunou Uchal Makhong, was reportedly abducted and killed by three to four cadres of the UKNA (United Kuki National Army) on January 21, near his rented residence in Tuibong, Churachandpur.
He had been living there since December 19 with his fiance (a Kuki woman), reportedly with the permission of the UKNA .
Strongly condemning the cold blooded murder of Rishikanta, the AMNM alleged that the murder was a result of the intelligence failure of the police and security forces to perform their duties on time.
The organisation demanded the immediate arrest of all those involved in the killing and strict punishment under the law, along with a widespread combing operation to apprehend them.
Following widespread condemnation from various quarters, the Home Secretary issued an order to hand over the investigation of the case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
However, the AMNM expressed doubt that the NIA prove would lead to the arrest and punishment of the perpetrators of this heinous crime.
The AMNM also pointed out that over 30 people have gone missing since the ethnic conflict erupted on May 3, 2023, and two students went missing on July 6, 2023, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
The IDM has also condemned the brutal murder of Mayanglambam Rishikanta in the strongest terms, saying that the cold blooded murder has reignited anger within the Meitei community.
The IDM highlighted the escalating tensions in the region, attributing instability to the actions of "Kuki immigrant terrorists".
The organisation criticized both the actions of the Kuki terrorists and the perceived inaction of the Indian Government, which it claims is observing the situation passively.
The IDM warned that continued negligence could lead to a broader uprising among indigenous communities, potentially destabilizing the entire region.
The organisation also alleged that 'Kuki terrorists' are freely entering Meitei villages, making life threats and attempts, aiming to prevent Meiteis from living in peace.
The IDM called upon both the State Central Governments to resolve the issue, emphasizing that the region is an integral part of India and the solution lies with the Government.
Extending solidarity to the bereaved family of Rishikanta, IDM urged the Government to take necessary steps to prevent such acts and ensure that the 'Kuki terrorists' face befitting penalties proportionate to the severity of their cruelty.
