IFM submits memo to Governor, highlights resolutions of 'Poinu Meepham'

The Irabot Foundation Manipur (IFM), one of the largest and oldest peasant's organisation in the State, has submitted a memorandum to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, apprising him about the outcome of the '7th Loumeesingi Poinu Meepham'.
In the memorandum submitted on Saturday, the IFM informed the Governor that the 7th Loumeesingi Poinu Meepham, the annual farmers' Poinu session was successfully convened by the Foundation on December 8, 2025 at JN Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal.
The Meepham (sitting) brought together over 300 participants, including farmers, agricultural experts, and Directors of Agriculture, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services, and the Department of Environment & Climate Change.
The IFM said that after extensive deliberations, the assembly adopted a set of resolutions aimed at strengthening the State's Agricultural framework and ensuring the welfare of farmers.
The resolutions are- Initiate more efforts on Natural farming and Organic farming for sustainable Agriculture; All arable and agricultural land should be protected.
Agricultural land should not be diverted for non-agricultural purposes.
Reinstate the land so diverted and acquired in original position; Land Used Policy must be framed and implemented in Manipur, ensure the best utilisation of land both in hills and valleys of Manipur; Formulate Agricultural Market Policy in Manipur; Set up facility for Germplasm Bank and Legislate Seed and Seedling Policy to Conserve/preserve indigenous Seeds; Provide proper irrigation facilities for farmers; Formulate a water policy and rejuvenate all traditional water bodies in Manipur; Formulate wetland conservation policy and include more wetland of the State to the Ramsar Convention list of India; Compensate farmers who were not cultivate their paddy fields due to the present crisis in Manipur for the years 2024 & 2025; Compensate farmers for Horticultural products and livestock that were lost in the present crisis in Manipur for the years 2023, 2024 & 2025; Initiate River Basin Planning Management with community participation under which river Basin should be the planning unit of development; and Award ownership titles for agricultural land to the landless farmers.
The IFM also mentioned that it remains committed to collaborate with the State Government to translate these resolutions into tangible benefits for the farming community.
