Deadline served for probe into 'wrongdoings' in MOBC

Imphal, March 11 2018: Altogether three strong resolutions including taking up intensified democratic forms of agitation by Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO) along with other Muslim CSOs in the State if the Government fails to institute an investigation into the alleged wrongdoings in the MOBC Department within seven days were adopted during a one-day open discussion held today at Youth Hostel, Khuman Lampak.

The open discussion was organised by MMWO on the theme "Various Aspects of Minorities Welfare Schemes and Misused Funds in the MOBC" .

Members present at the programme unanimously resolved to launch non-cooperation movement along with the people against the works taken up by MOBC Department by its officials, including Commissioner and Chairperson as well as in the institutions for minorities opened under MOBC.

It also decided to conduct campaigns and awareness programmes in the Meitei Pangal dominated areas to make the public aware about the wrongdoings in the department and in the concerned institutions.

They further decided to extend support to the works taken up by MMWO in connection with the welfare and development of the minorities in the State.

During the programme, many resource persons spoke on the grievances of Meitei Pangals and deprivation of their rights.

President of World Human Rights Protection Association, Manipur Chapter, Wahazuddin said that there is absence of authority in the State to look into the grievances of Meitei Pangal community as both the Government and Opposition, fail to address the grievances of the community.

He mentioned that even the representatives from the Meitei Pangal dominated A/Cs do not take up any significant step for upliftment of the community and instead work according to their whims.

Observing that deliverance of the benefits of the schemes and projects meant for minorities requires election of good and determined representatives, Wahazuddin maintained that organising awareness campaigns to make Meitei Pangal aware about the impacts of the failure of electing undeserving representatives is must.

Taking part in the programme, information secretary of All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO) BM Yaima underscored the need to seek cooperation from other major communities for a collective effort to put an end to the exploitation of the rights of Meitei Pangals.

Noting that in the history of the State nothing has been achieved when it comes to any social cause without the collective effort of all the communities, he called upon the people, particularly Meitei, Pangal community to work and fight collectively against deprivation of their rights.

Advocate Alhaj Md Rabi Khan, executive member of Bar Council of Manipur attended the discussion programme as the moderator.
