Training on 'Pulse Production Technologies' ends

Imphal, March 30 2026:
An eight day capacity-building programme on "Recent Advances in Pulse Production Technologies for Strengthening Food and Nutritional Security among Smallholder Farmers in North East India" successfully concluded today at the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat.
The programme aimed to enhance food and nutritional security in the region and was sponsored by ICAR-Indian Institute of Pulses Research (ICAR-IIPR), Kanpur.
The valedictory session was graced by dignitaries, including Dr S Basanta Singh, Head of Regional Centre; Dr E Lamalakshmi; and Dr N Anando Singh, Senior Scientists.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr S Basanta Singh emphasized the critical role of pulses in improving soil fertility and farm profitability through the adoption of advanced technologies and integration into existing cropping systems.
Dr E Lamalakshmi highlighted the socioeconomic benefits and nutritional importance of pulses as an affordable source of protein and essential micronutrients.
The training included expert lectures on a range of topics, including climate-resilient production, suitable varieties, nutrient management, pest control, seed systems, and value addition, along with a field visit to innovate pulsebased cropping systems.
A total of 42 farmers, including 10 women farmers, participated and expressed appreciation for the training's practical relevance.
Essential agricultural inputs such as urd bean seeds, moong bean seeds, and biofertilizers were distributed to facilitate the adoption of the improved technologies at the field level.
The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates, reinforcing ICAR's dedication to strengthening pulse-based production systems in the North Eastern Region.
