Imphal, December 26 2023: The current Manipur crisis can't be resolved by merely providing some relief materials.

It is a political problem and a serious issue that needs political dialogues, said veteran CPI leader Dr M Nara.

Dr M Nara, who is a member of the CPI's National Control Commission, said this as the party celebrated its 99th foundation day at Irawat Bhavan, Imphal today.

As the violent conflict between the Meiteis and Kukis entered 238th day (7 months 24 days), Dr Nara said the failure of the Central Government and the State Government to solve the crisis shows their inability and weakness.

"To find a solution to the crisis, all groups concerned should sit down and engage in political dialogues.

Only proper dialogues will solve the crisis," Dr M Nara said.

To solve, the crisis calls for the Central Government to approach all parties sincerely to get their ideas and a conscious public cooperation.

However, the Centre is seen doing none of these, he said.

Dr M Nara asserted that the Government is not there to only provide some facilities and relief materials.

It is the duty of the Government to protect and develop the identity, religion and language of all communities.

Law and order is the responsibility of the State Government.

It is the duty of the Government and the political party in power to protect the lives of the people and their properties.

Peace and harmony won't return if there is lawlessness in the State, he said.

The veteran politician asserted that the Government while taking up steps to solve the crisis should declare what it aims to do to achieve the solution.

The Government should seek opinions and ideas from all groups, parties and the public.

The ideas the groups and the public pitch in should be considered and studied.

The Government alone, without consulting all stakeholders, can't solve the crisis, he said.

Even when the public and the stakeholders are willing to cooperate, the Government is unable to take this opportunity.

The Government has not yet taken steps to resolve the crisis.

This is very unfortunate, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr M Nara said the Communist Party of India was established on December 26, 1925 .

The party was founded to uplift the people, foster peace and bring development.

Starting today, the party will celebrate its centenary till December 26, 2025, he said.

Manipur State Council, CPI secretary L Thoiren, former secretary L Sotinkumar, assistant secretary N Singhajit and assistant secretary M Joykumar among others were present.
