Scribes urged to be bridge between citizens, Govt

All Bishnupur District Working Journalists' Union (ABDWJU) celebrated its 8th Foundation Day at Bishnupur Municipal Council conference hall on Saturday.
The programme was attended by Oinam MLA Irengbam Nalini Devi, Moirang MLA Thongam Shanti Singh, Bishnupur deputy commissioner Lourembam Bikram Singh and Union's president Y Somananda Mangang as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Moirang MLA Th Shanti Singh stated that journalists should act as a bridge between citizens and the government.
Observing that legislature, executive, judiciary and media should work together for development, he advised journalists to adhere to their ethics and provide suggestions that can help resolve issues.

Shanti also assured that he would extend his support in building an office for ABDWJU .
Chipping in, Bishnupur DC L Bikram Singh suggested that media which is the fourth pillar of democracy should strive for balance reporting in Manipur, as the state is a conflict zone.
He also noted that journalists need life insurance and health related schemes, while expressing his readiness to assist.
ABDWJU secretary A Kishankumar Singh said that presently the Union is functioning from its temporary office at Room No.6, New Mini Secretariat B Block with authorisation from Bishnupur DC, but there is urgent need for construction of a press club of the district at the earliest.
During the programme, former Union members Huidrom Ronibala, Thokchom Ramida and Sagolshem Naresh, who have joined government service were felicitated with mementos and stoles.
