International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies observed

The International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies was observed today at Wisdom Foundation School, Khangabok in an event organised by District Health Society Thoubal.
Dr Y Nokul Singh, Chief Medical Officer graced the event as the chief guest; L Sobha Singh, Principal, Wisdom Foundation School as the president and Ch Basanta Singh, District Program Manager, District Health Society Thoubal as the guest of honour.
At the event Dr Y Nokul Singh addressed the hardships brought on by rising levels of heat.
Use of private vehicles instead of public transportation, use of air conditioners, refrigerators, burning of plastic items, smoke emanating from brick farms and other factories, deforestation etc are leading contributors to air and water pollution and global warming in general.
In consideration of future generations, he urged people to adopt the habit of planting more trees and supporting the initiatives taken up under the National Programme on Climate Change and Human Health (NPCCHH).
Further encouraging the use of renewable energy, he informed that hospitals in Thoubal district are currently undergoing solarization.
The event was also attended by officials of District Health Society and 200 students and teachers.
Additionally, a hearing screening camp was held for the school teachers and students.
