CCpur, June 18 2025:
The Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights (KWOHR) organised a massive protest on Wednesday morning, in response to what they described as the increasing and targeted arrests of Kuki leaders by the NIA and CBI .
The organisation cited these actions as indicative of escalating ethnic injustice, prompting an urgent call for constitutional intervention.
The rally began from Koite Playground around 11 am and proceeded to the Wall of Remembrance near Peace Ground.
Thousands of women from across the Kuki-Zo community participated, chanting slogans such as "Respect Human Rights", "We Don't Want Selective Justice", "Justice for the Kuki-Zo Community", and "Stop Arbitrary Arrests" .
Demonstrators lined the route, vocally demanding justice.
Participants carried placards bearing messages including: "Protect Human Rights, Not Political Agendas", "Criminalise Killers, Not Defenders", "Release Our Leaders", "Arrest the Culprits", and "Break the Bias: NIA/CBI", among others.
As part of the protest, the KWOHR submitted a formal representation to the union home minister through the district magistrate.
In the address, the organisation expressed concern that despite holding a peaceful protest and submitting a detailed memorandum on May 31, 2025, the situation has further deteriorated.
It was reported that two more Kuki individuals - Thangneo Kipgen (also known as Hentinthang) from Molnomphai, Churachandpur, and Kamginthang Gangte from Moreh, Tengnoupal - have been arrested under what the KWOHR described as unjust and indefensible circumstances.
The organisation is calling for the immediate release of all arbitrarily detained Kuki-Zo individuals, a judicial enquiry into the arrests and alleged ethnic profiling, the arrest of extremist leaders and armed militias, the seizure of looted weapons, and an investigation into possible collusion with state actors.
In May and early June, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested three insurgents in a case related to a deadly attack on security forces that killed two police commandos and injured several others last year.
The three men, along with their associates, planned, conspired and executed the attack on an India Reserve Battalion (IRB) post and security forces at Moreh in Tengnoupal district on January 17, 2024.Among the arrested was Thangminlen Mate, a resident of Tengnoupal district and member of the Kuki Inpi Tengnoupal (KIT) .
The other accused, Kamginthang Gangte, a member of the Kuki National Army (KNA), and Hentinthang Kipgen alias Thangneo Kipgen, associated with the village vol unteers' group in Churachandpur district, were arrested on June 6 .
