The Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department, Government of Manipur, on Friday released relief funds through Direct Benefit Transfer to 1,562 horticulture farmers whose fruits and vegetables were damaged by hailstorms and strong winds in March this year.
The disbursement took place during the 10th anniversary programme of the Manipur Organic Mission Agency held at Sangai Hall, Hotel Imphal Classic, North AOC.
The event, themed 'Towards Abundance and Creation of 'Value Chain Horticulture, A Decade (2016-25) of Mission Organic Value Chain Development of North Eastern Region', was organised by MOMA.
Commissioner T Pamei, who is also MOMA Chairman, handed over the relief.
He said that under the Chief Minister's guidance, the State provided the assistance even if modest to help farmers cope with losses.

He noted that sustained awareness by MOMA has increased organic cultivation and that the State's organic products now command space in domestic and global markets due to rising health awareness.
Director Debadutta Sharma said MOMA's 10 years have produced recognised organic stakeholders and opened outlets abroad, including exports to the UAE .
He added that well-packaged organic products from Manipur are receiving global consumer appreciation.
MOMA is focusing on quality sustainable produce, post-harvest units, processing, and export promotion, while using modem technology to mitigate climate-change impacts on farmers.
The programme saw the release of the book "Organic Farming in Manipur: Journey Through the Years 2016-25", launch of a poster campaign and a promotional video on organic products, and distribution of promotional mugs, plastic crates and bags to FPCs.
