MPP comes down hard on the Central govt

Imphal, October 07 2011: Reacting sharply to the indifferent attitude of the Central government to the ongoing economic blockade in all NHs of the state, which is the property of the Indian government, MPP has come down hard on the Centre and questioned whether it will remain silent even if Manipur declares independence from India.

Speaking to Hueiyen Lanpao, O Joy, Leader of the Legislature Wing, MPP said that the Party has time and again met with the Governor and made known to him that the state government is not able end the economic blockade on the NHs of the state which is against the Constitution of the country.

Since the state government is unable to solve the problems, the Party has also appealed to the Governor for the Centre's intervention.

But after 70 days of continuous economic blockade, the central government has still remained silent, watching the people of the state suffer.

He further said that the people of the state are suffering as a result of the economic blockade.

It has further led to the dilution of the love and understanding which exist among the people of the hills and plains.

An intervention of the Central government is urgently required.

Staying mum at this juncture will only aggravate the situation and questions on the involvement of the Central government in the ongoing economic blockade will further rise.

Responding to the statement made by the leaders of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee that there is no Opposition in the government, O Joy said that there has been 11 sittings of the 9th Assembly so far.

So far there were 21 calling attention motions were brought up.

Among these, 19 calling attention motions were brought up by the MPP on various issues of the state.

No leaders from the ruling side brought up and discussed any issue of the state.

There is no hard and fast rule that a ruling MLA cannot come up with any questions.

Just sitting in the Assembly session hall will not bring about any development in the state, he said.
