Disturbance-Free Education Zone Demand Day observed at Jiri College

The Coordinating Committee on Disturbance-Free EducationZone Demandon Sunday observed the 19thDisturbance-Free Education Zone Demand Day, 2026 at Jiri College.
Jiribam, under the theme "Save Education, Save Manipur, Save the Future".
The programme was organised with the objective of ensuring a disturbance-free educational environment that allows students to pursue learning without disruption.
The event was attended by Jiri College Principal Rajkuman Sanachaobi Devi, RK Sanatombi Vidyalaya, Jiribam, Principal Sorokhaibam Maniton Singh, Jiribam Higher Secondary School Economics Lecturer N Sanjib Kumar Singh, Women Association for Socio Economic Development (WASED) Vice-President Y Chandrasakhi Devi, former DESAM Jiribam District Council President Sapam Shyamsunder Singh, HERICOUN Jiribam President Senjam Sainik Kumar Singh, and DESAM Jiribam District Council President Thokchom Santosh as presidium members.
The programme began with the organisers felicitating the dignitaries by presenting traditional Lengyan shawls, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Sorokhaibam Maniton Singh.
During the observance, the gathering reiterated a series of demands aimed at making educational institutions disturbance-free.
The committee appealed to organisations not to impose unreasonable monetary or material demands on educational institutions and urged the Government not to politicise education.
Among ite key demands were the enactment of a law to ensure a minimum of 220 teaching days in a year, timely government intervention to prevent disruption of academic activities, and an end to corruption, nepotism and favouritism in education-related matters.
The committee also urged the Government to appoint the Directors of Education (Schools) and Education (University) from among qualified teachers, establish a separate Directorate of Teacher Education, and ensure that transfers and postings of teachers are carried out transparently rather than being treated as a business.
It further called upon school managements, teachers and students to discharge their respective responsibilities with honesty and dedication to create a peaceful and conducive academic atmosphere across the State.
