Mount Everest College marks cultural day with vibrant cultural shows

Mount Everest College (Autonomous), Senapati celebrated its Annual Cultural Day on Wednesday with vibrant displays of cultural dances, music and traditional attire at the college auditorium.
Organised by the Cultural Committee in collaboration with the IQAC under the theme "Unity Through Cultural Heritage," the event brought together students from diverse communities, reflecting the rich cultural mosaic of the region.

Dr Gonmei Meithuanlungpou, Vice Principal of the college, highlighted that culture fosters unity among communities, but cautioned that without justice, equality, liberty and fraternity, it could also lead to division in a heterogeneous society.

Emphasising that culture forms an essential part of identity, he urged students to preserve, promote and practice their traditions to strengthen social harmony.
Noting that India is home to hundreds of cultures and Manipur itself has 33 distinct tribal communities, he stressed the importance of mutual respect; tolerance and appreciation to ensure peaceful coexistence.
He also called for deeper reflection and research into cultural practices while remaining mindful of personal beliefs.
Referring to the recent grant of autonomous status to the college on February 24, 2026, the vice-principal expressed gratitude to the Director of University and Higher Education, the Manipur University, UGC and other authorities concerned and described it as both an achievement and a responsibility to contribute more meaningfully to society.
The programme featured competitions among various student groups including Zeliangrong, Poumai, Tangkhul, Mao, Nepali, Maram and Kuki.
Performances were judged based on authenticity, uniformity, rhythm and costume.
The Poumai cultural dance troupe secured first position, followed by Mao and Nepali troupes in second and third places respectively.
Highlights of the event included traditional dance, extravaganza shows, war cries, and cultural presentations, with participants donning traditional attire.
The celebration concluded with a traditional cuisine display, adding flavour to the cultural festivities.
The programme was attended by VS Vaison, adviser, Poumai Cultural Committee, Ngaopunii Rao, Poumai cultural secretary, GBs of Taphou Phyamai village, along with faculty members, staff and students.
