Army, AR, police, schools, colleges enliven R-Day parade

Imphal, January 27 2026:
Manipur observed the 77th Republic Day at Kangla with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla attending the ceremony as the chief guest yesterday.
N Madhunimai Singh, Commandant of the 8th Manipur Rifles commanded the RD parade.
Dozens of contingents of ex-servicemen, Army, Assam Rifles, police, schools and colleges took part in the march past.
The march past contingents started from the 1st MR Parade ground, and proceeded to Kangla before culminating at the starting point.
14 cultural troupes from several districts participated in the RD parade, which featured tableaux of different Government departments.
Governor Bhalla received the guard of honour and hoisted the tricolour.
The Governor then distributed medals to 14 security personnel and 2 fire servicemen.
Deputy Superintendent of CID (Special Branch), Sorokhaibam Rudranarayan Singh received the President's Medal for Distinguished Service from the Governor.
Seven personnel, including CID Special Branch Inspector Laishram Chaoba Singh; 1st IRB Chura-chandpur Jemadar Naorem Seilendra Singh; Sub-Inspector (Imphal West) Soro- khaibam Santosh Singh; Jemadar (MPTC) Khaidem Chandra Singh; Havildar (4th IRB) Lenpu Kom; and Assistant Sub-Inspector (Imphal West) Athokpam Tej Singh, received medal for meritorious service.
Six personnel, including Additional SP (Ops) [Thoubal unit] Hijam Devendra Singh; Deputy SP (Investigation Unit for Crimes against Women) [Churachandpur unit] SL Thangjapao Vaiphei; 1st MR Jemadar Y Nilbir Singh; 2nd MR Havildar Irengbam Dorendro Meetei; Assistant Sub-Inspector Kangpokpi Seikhohao Khongsai; and 4th IRB Rifleman Mangte Jacky Kom, received the medal for meritorious service (awarded on the occasion of Independence Day-2025) .
Two Leading Firemen, Panmei Gaikhangam and Maibam Sevenson Singh, received medals for Meritorious Service awarded on the occasion of Independence Day 2024.4th Mahar (Borders) Regiment and Assam Rifles were adjudged the best in the uniform contingent category.
Contingents of Border Security Force (BSF) and 11th Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) secured the 2nd and third place.
Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) Andro, Manipur Public School (girls) and TG Higher Secondary School secured the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place respectively in the school contingent category.
14th NCC Senior Boys and Girls, 65th Girls NCC and NCC Senior Air Wing secured the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place respectively in the NCC contingent category.
Contingents of DM College of Science (boys and girls), Liberal College and Manipur College secured the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place respectively in the college category.
In the band party category, Assam Rifles Band Platoon, 1st IRB Band Platoon and CRPF Band Platoon secured the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
Salairen Cultural research Institute Imphal West, Chakama Art and Culture Academy Kamjong and The Performing Entrancement Art & Culture Evolution Thoubal secured the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place respectively in the cultural dance troupes category.
The tableau of the Tourism Department was ranked the best, followed by tableaux of the Department of Textiles, Commerce and Industries, and Forest Department.
The Sericulture Department, Forest Department and Tourism Department ranked 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively in gate construction.
The Governor also distributed cash prizes with citations to winners of a folk-dance competition.
Bhalla handed over a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh to winner Ibudhou Loyalakpa Manipuri Dance Group, Bishnupur district.
Echel Jagoi Lup, Jiribam district received Rs 70,000 cash prize and Chakama Arts and Cultural Academy, Kamjong district received Rs 50,000 cash prize.
All participating troupes were awarded Rs 15,000 each along with certificates.
The Governor also presented red blankets to 14 village chiefs of 8 districts, Chandel, Kamjong, Kangpokpi, Noney, Senapati, Tamenglong, Churachandpur and Tengnoupal.
Heads and personnel of dozens of departments, and several contingents including that of differently abled persons were given special prizes.
At the culmination of the march past at 1st MR parade ground, Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel stressed the significance of celebrating the Republic Day, and said that the Constitution of the country is a "living charter" that ensures and safeguards the rights and dignity of the citizens.
As a part of the Republic Day celebration, Governor Bhalla and First lady Jyoti Bhalla hosted an "At Home" reception at Lok Bhavan, Imphal in the afternoon.
Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Th Satyabrata, Chief Justice of High Court of Manipur, MLAs, Chief Secretary, Security Advisor, DGP and several senior officers of the police, army and paramilitary forces, eminent personalities, artists, awardees and special invitees were present.
The Governor extended warm greetings of the Republic Day to the dignitaries.
Republic Day marks the day in 1950 when the Constitution of India came into force, establishing the Nation as a sovereign democratic republic.
The Constitution was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on November 26, 1949, and it came into force on January 26, 1950 .
