Imphal, July 24 2025:
The Centre has moved to extend President's Rule in Manipur for another six months beginning August 13, 2025, as per a statutory resolution submitted by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the Rajya Sabha
on Thursday.
According to the resolution published in the Rajya Sabha Parliamentary Bulletin Part II, the government has sought the House's approval to continue the proclamation issued on February 13, 2025, under Article 356 of the Constitution.
The extension, if approved, would keep President's Rule in force in the ethnic violence-hit state until February 2026 .
The resolution states: "That this House approves the continuance in force of the Proclamation dated the 13th February, 2025 in respect of Manipur, issued under article 356 of the Constitution by the President, for a further period of six months with effect from 13th August, 2025" .
President's Rule was imposed in Manipur following months of ethnic conflict and administrative breakdown, with the state assembly kept under suspended animation.
The Rajya Sabha Secretariat also announced that it will discontinue the circulation of parliamentary papers in hard copies.
All documents will now be shared digitally with Members of Parliament as a standard practice, the bulletin said.
