Considering the possibility of pickpockets taking undue advantage of the huge crowds, police have been keeping a strict vigil.
With people from different directions converging at Khwairamband Keithel, all roads of Imphal city are highly congested these days.
As such, Traffic Police have been enduring extra work loads.
There were instances of Traffic Police flattening tyres of vehicles for not parking at proper places.
Some people told The Sangai Express that they came to Khwairamband Keithel for shopping ahead of the Ningol Chakkouba festival.
It appeared that the prices of goods are a little higher this time as compared to the previous years, they said.
Pointing out that all the people have been facing financial difficulties on account of the protracted crisis, they expressed strong disapproval against hiking prices of goods.
Some women dealing in garments said that they are now selling some pieces of garments unlike the past days when a single piece of garment could not be sold from morning till dusk.
But the sale is not as good as recorded five/six years back, they said.
Hardly the people had heaved a sigh of relief from the COVID-19 pandemic when Kuki militants launched a sustained and brutal aggression.
This totally destroyed the livelihood of tens of thousands of daily wage eamers/casual workers, they added.
As such, signs of people minimising expenditure on Ningol Chakkouba festival are also visible.
