Imphal, April 16 2026:
The State Cabinet has discussed and approved several listed and unlisted agendas including construction of more pre fabricated houses for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Bishnupur and empowerment of Deputy Commissioners and District Administration for proper management of solid and liquid waste in the State.
The Cabinet meeting was held at the CM's Secretariat from around 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm.
Chaired by Chief Minister Y Khemchand, the meeting was attended by all Ministers viz Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho, Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen (attended virtually) Home Minister K Govindas and Tourism Minister Kh Loken.
During the meeting, the Cabinet noted that the 3000 temporary shelters constructed under "Scheme for Providing Temporary Shelters to Displaced Families" of the Ministry of Home Affairs are not adequate to house all IDPs residing in schools and colleges (12871 IDPs in 64 schools and 9 colleges) .
Saying that the State Government had requested for extension of the scheme to build additional 2,500 units, the Cabinet agreed that there has arisen an emergent requirement to construct additional pre-fabricated houses due to mounting pressure from many stakeholders to vacate the colleges and schools to resume normal classes.
However, IDPs from Churachandpur and Kangpokpi staying in schools and colleges are not in position to return to their native places, the Cabinet discussed and agreed to construct additional units of pre fabricated houses based on actual need on the ground.
The Cabinet also discussed and approved several other agendas such as land allotment for Lamsang Municipal Council for waste management, economic revival of Manipur through implementation of Integrated Farming System, establishment of The Manipur Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) Council.
The meeting also approved the declaration of a part of Kharungpat in Kakching as Wildlife Sanctuary under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 for conservation of waterbirds.
Most other agendas approved during the meeting were related to re-engagement of Government officials.
The Chief Minister also shared about the Cabinet meeting in his social media handle.
He said that the meeting deliberated on key administrative measures addressing critical issues of development, peace, and security in the State.
The Cabinet approved a series of new development initiatives and governance measures that will be translated into timely action, he said.
He further said that the Government remains steadfast in its commitment to ensure lasting peace, strengthened security, and bring inclusive development in the State.
