After the State Government decided to withdraw from the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement, it has launched a crackdown on those violating the SoO ground rules by arresting and taking up legal action against them.
A cadre of the Kuki Liberation Army (KLA) who was found violating the ground rules of SoO agreement was apprehended, and arms and ammunition were seized from his possession by a combined team of security forces at Bijang village, Churachandpur at around 12.45 pm on March 28.The apprehended person has been identified as one Minsy (31), son of (L) Ngampao of Haolai Khopi village, Churachandpur district.
According to an FIR lodged by 36 AR at Sangaikot police station, the accused has been attempting to wage war and cause bodily harm to security forces and civilians, indulging in extortion activities, instigating mobs to act against security forces, violation of SoO ground rules and waging war against the Union of India.
It said that regular area domination was conducted by combined security forces along the Manipur River corridor.
A combined team of security forces observed movement of three suspected cadres with weapons.
On challenging them, two cadres ran away but the third cadre was cornered, it mentioned.
It also mentioned that the local womenfolk surrounded the cadre while around 100 women also surrounded the security forces as they attempted to apprehend the accused personOne 7.62 mm SLR with one magazine and 18 rounds, one AK 56, 198 rounds of 5.56 mm INSAS ammunition with four magazines, BPJ cover with 2 BP plates were seized from his possession, it said.
The incident raised strong indications of KLA cadres using arms and ammunition looted from the State armouries, and measures are underway for further investigation into the case, it added.
