Despite being under a ceasefire pact with the Government of India, there has been no let up in the reported assaults on Congress by NSCN-IM cadres.
A late report informed that one executive member of Senapati District Congress Committee was severely assaulted by some individuals armed with sophisticated weapons who identified themselves as cadres of NSCN-IM at about 8.30 am of January 26. DCC member PK Joseph (59) of Oinam hill village within Karong AC of Senapati district was dragged out from his home and was beaten up blue and black by eight NSCN-IM cadres some distance away from his home.

As he sustained grievous injuries on the lower part of his body, Joseph is currently undergoing treatment in a private hospital at Imphal.
The NSCN-IM cadres questioned Joseph as to why he was supporting the Congress candidate instead of a candidate endorsed by them.
They also asked why he was opposing the NSCN-IM's diktat.
