Ministers, MLA take stock of flood affected areas

Following the flash floods due to incessant rain in the past few days, a team of Government officials visited Heirok, Wangjing and Khangabok areas today, taking stock of the current flood situation.
The team comprising of CAF and PD Minister M Okendro, IFCD Minister Ngamthang Haokip, Works and Transport Minister Kh Ratankumar, MLA of Khangabok A/C O Landhoni, IFCD officials, Thoubal DC and police officials visited the flood affected areas.
The Heirok Litan Thong which connects Heirok Part II and III was completely washed away by swirling flood water yesterday and the visiting team took stock of the situation.
Champrathong constructed over Wangjing river under Heirok A/C bore the brunt of flood water.
They also visited areas of Wangjing Tentha, Lamding, Shangaiyumphum, Puleipokpi Nungphou which are all completely inundated by flood water.
All the adjoining areas of Shangaiyumpham were flooded submerging all the farmlands.

Meanwhile locals of Nongpok Sekmai were instructed by their local MLA M Okendra to open up more relief camps for the flood victims and all necessary materials will be provided by the department concerned at the earliest.
Households, farmlands and the road towards Nongpok Lourembam area were overflooded.
Chandrakhong bridge built over Etok canal at Yairipok Chandrakhong under Heirok A/C which was washed away yesterday was also visited by the team.
Briefing media persons after the visit, Works and Transport Minister Kh Ratankumar said that for immediate steps to connect Heirok Part II and III, the Heirok Litan bridge would be modified to a 'bailey bridge' which could take roughly one month.
For other bridges which were damaged or destroyed, repairing and construction work will commence after the flood water recedes.
He added that in all flood affected areas, more relief camps will be opened in schools, community halls and other vacant areas.
The authority concerned of the State Government will start dispatching all necessary materials including food, cloth, medicine etc.
to reach the affected people, he stated.
Overflowing water also inundated the Indo-Myanmar road from Wangbal to Wangjing area.
It is also reported that at Yairipok Tulihal Tapokpi, the swirling flood water breached portions of Koirou Canal Dam at about 5.40 pm and flood water have inundated farmlands in Andro and Mayanglou areas.
