Thoubal, July 28 2025:
The ongoing pen-down strike called by the Lecturers' Association of Manipur has significantly disrupted the academic atmosphere at Lamding Higher Secondary School, leaving classrooms deserted and learning activities at a standstill.
The school's principal, M Binodini has expressed grave concern over the situation and appealed to the government to address the demands of the striking lecturers at the earliest.
According to the Principal, the lecturers from the 2018 batch have been protesting over the delay in issuing Regular Pay and the lack of progress in their regularization process, despite official order being issued in 2023 .
She highlighted that a significant number of teachers from the Arts stream, including subjects such as History, Geography, Economics, Manipuri, Political Science are participating in the strike, which has paralysed the school's academic functioning for several days.
The principal appealed to the authorities to respond positively to the teachers' legitimate demands in order to safeguard the academic future of the students.
Meanwhile, students of the school staged a protest demonstration at the school campus today, calling for an immediate resolution of the issues so that classes could resume without further delay.
During the protest, placards with inscriptions like "Empty Classroom Empty Future," "Without Teachers, Future Pillar Can't Be Shape", "We Want Regular Classes", "Resume Regular Class", etc, were used by the students.
Angelica Sorokhaibam, a Class XI Science student, voiced her concern, stating that with many teachers involved in the pen-down strike, regular classes have come to a complete halt.
"Most of us cannot afford private tuition and rely solely on school for our education.
The strike has deeply impacted our academics," she said, urging the government to intervene and resolve the issue at the earliest.
She further warned that if the Government fails to act on the legitimate demands of the lecturers, students might be compelled to launch intensified forms of agitation in the coming days.
