Thoubal/Churachandpur, January 28 2026:
As part of the 37th National Road Safety Month being observed across the country on the theme "Sadak Suraksha, Jeevan Raksho" district administrations in Thoubal and Churachandpur have intensified road safety awareness activities to promote responsible driving and reduce traffic accidents.
In Thoubal district, the District Transport Office (DTO), in collaboration with the District Administration, has been continuing extensive awareness drives targeting vehicle riders.
A public campaign to educate the public on road safety was conducted today at major public places, including Thoubal Bazar, Yairipok Bazar, Lilong Bazar and Babu Bazar.
Speaking during an awareness drive held in front of the District Transport Office, Thoubal, DTO Thoubal Irengbam Hemochandra said that the District Road Safety Committee, which was set up chaired by the Deputy Commissioner of Thoubal, has been conducting various awareness drives across the district since January 1, 2026 under the initiative of the DC.
He added that road safety awareness programmes have also been organised in schools and colleges, while vehicle riders are being sensitised on traffic norms.
Violators of traffic rules are being issued e-challans as part of enforcement measures.
The DTO informed that the awareness campaign will continue till January 31, stressing that while roads are meant for public use, vehicle riders must strictly adhere to traffic rules such as wearing seat belts, using helmets while driving, and carrying valid documents.
He appealed for collective efforts from the public to make the district, state and country free from road accidents.
Meanwhile, in Churachandpur district, the District Administration organised a Wall Painting Competition on the theme "Road Safety" to spread awareness on safe driving practices through creative expression.
The competition, coordinated by the Zonal Education Officer in collaboration with the CEO of the Autonomous District Council, Churachandpur, saw enthusiastic participation from students of five schools - Young Learners School, Children Training High School, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Chingkham Modem High School and Sielmat Christian Higher Secondary School.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Lalrobul Fimate, accompanied by ZEO Esther Chingneikim, inspected the event and appreciated the students for their creativity.
Through vibrant colours and imaginative designs, the young participants conveyed strong messages on observing traffic rules, wearing seat belts and helmets, avoiding alcohol consumption while driving, and staying free from distractions on the road.
Praising the initiative, Fimate noted that such creative efforts have the potential to inspire wider community awareness.
He encouraged the students to carry forward the message of road safety into their homes and neighbourhoods, making it a collective responsibility.
In line with the national initiative, the district administration has rolled out several complementary activities across Churachandpur.
Road safety drives are being conducted at multiple locations under the supervision of the Superintendent of Police and the Traffic Control Wing, combining enforcement measures with on-the-spot awareness sessions, particularly highlighting compliance with the Motor Vehicles Act.
Educational institutions across the districts are also organising essay and quiz competitions to deepen students' understanding of traffic norms.
Additionally, a short film contest on road safety has been opened to the general public, inviting submissions of ten-minute films, with winning entries to be selected by the District Administration.
