Senapati, October 26 2025:
The Times of Senapati media hosted a public talk show on the alleged Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) scam in Senapati district on Saturday, sparking widespread concern over corruption and mismanagement in the flagship rural water supply project.
Organised by Youth Rise for Change, a youth-led movement advocating accountability in governance, the event drew a packed audience and a distinguished panel of speakers, including social activists, former officials, and citizens.
The discussion opened with a detailed presentation on the 'false data' of the project achievement of Functional Tap Household Connections (FTHC).
During the discussion, RK Chawang, social activist presented 'factual' data along with photographic evidence and records showing that despite claims of high achievement, most households in the district remain without functional tap connections.
Former Director (HRD) NEC, Kh Siile Anthony, elaborated on the pervasive corruption not only in Senapati but across the state and country.
He urged citizens to "break the system that perpetuates corruption" and underscored how such malpractices directly harm rural communities.
Responding to the allegations, Gaijinlung Thaimei, Executive Engineer (EE), PHED Senapati, acknowledged irregularities in the implementation of the JJM project and assured that corrective steps would be taken by November 2025.His remarks, however, were met with skepticism as attendees raised pressing concerns about data manipulation and the alleged merging of figures from previous projects.
Chawang reiterated the demand for the PHED to produce audited statements, utilization certificates, and supporting documents for both the JJM and New Development Bank (NDB) projects.
He maintained that since these were new flagship schemes, their data could not be legally merged with earlier projects without proper justification.
The talk show concluded with a unified call for immediate government intervention, transparency in project execution, and an independent investigation into the alleged scam.
