In his inaugural address, Nodiachand laid emphasis on the vital role of Remote Sensing and GIS technologies in enhancing evidence-based decision-making and governance, highlighting their importance in areas such as agricultural planning, water resource management, urban development, and disaster response, particularly in the state's unique and complex terrain.
Speaking on the topic of bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world applications, Joyremba underlined the synergy between public institutions and private enterprises.
He maintained that local talents can not only keep pace with but also contribute to global advancements in geospatial intelligence with the right training.
The training programme will have sessions by experienced scientists and domain experts from premier institutions, including MARSAC, North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC), Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), and other reputed organisations.
The course offers a blend of theoretical modules and extensive practical training, covering field data collection, satellite image interpretation, spatial data analysis, GPS handling, UAV/drone survey mapping, and GIS project development.
Training coordinator Dr Leishangthem Surjit introduced the resource persons and trainers, while speaking about their experiences and the diverse projects they have undertaken.
He stressed the value of learning from experts with hands-on knowledge in the field.
The training has drawn participants from a wide range of backgrounds, including government officials, university students, academic researchers, private sector professionals, and faculty members, reflecting the growing demand for geospatial literacy across disciplines and sectors.
Meanwhile, both MARSAC and CubeTen expressed optimism that the programme would not only equip participants with critical geospatial skills but also inspire broader initiatives aimed at capacity-building across the state.
They also acknowledged the department of information and public relations for their support in helping raise public awareness about the significance of Remote Sensing and GIS technologies.
