Imphal, December 21 2025:
Lions Club Imphal Valley and Imphal Valley NextGen have successfully launched the Swachh Bharat Campaign of Lions Clubs International District 322D on Sunday, targeting the historic IMA Market and Mall Road - two of Imphal's busiest commercial hubs.
Under the leadership of GMT district coordinator Prof N Romi Singh and district coordinator (Swachh Bharat) Manmeet Singh Arora, the initiative brought together approximately 130 sanitation workers, private agencies, and 20 dedicated Lions volunteers.
Working in partnership with the Imphal Municipal Corporation, teams commenced operations at 7:30 am to maximize community impact.
Imphal City police personnel also coordinated the cleanliness drive, said a release issued by Lions Club of Imphal Valley.
At the event, Prof Romi Singh highlighted the importance of keeping the environment clean for a healthy community.
Highlighting that spreading awareness is more important than just cleaning for a day, he said, "The Lions fraternity will try to continue the awareness campaign of keeping the environment clean and prevention of plastic pollution in the surrounding" .
Indrajit Meitei, club secretary of Imphal Valley Lions Club remarked, "This campaign embodies our district's environmental mission.
By taking direct action in our community's busiest areas, we are improving sanitation and inspiring citizens to embrace cleanliness as a shared responsibility".
The comprehensive clean-up included systematic drain cleaning and treatment with bleaching powder to ensure proper hygiene standards and prevent waterborne diseases-a critical public health concern in urban areas.
The Swachh Bharat Campaign represents a cornerstone of District 322D's broader environmental goals, aligning with Lions Clubs International's global commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development.
The Lions Club of Imphal Valley also informed that the campaign's success was made possible through the generous support of Hemant Jain, joint treasurer of Imphal Valley Lions Club, who sponsored breakfast for all 150+ participants, ensuring volunteers remained energized throughout the campaign.
