Imphal, November 21 2025:
In yet another remarkable feat, Sky Hospital & Research Centre, Imphal has successfully conducted a device closure of 'heart rupture' on a 51 years old man.
The procedure saved the life of Heni Liba, a resident of Thingha Khullen village, Senapati.
As per a release issued by Sky Hospital, Heni Liba was brought to the hospital's OPD on November 17, 2025 with breathlessness and chest pain.
An Echocardiogram of the patient showed rupture of the heart posteriorly, with blood going out through the ruptured site called the neck.
The blood outside the heart was halted by the outer membrane covering the heart, called pericardium.
This forms what is known as pseudoaneurysm which can give way anytime causing sudden cardiac death if the heart muscle rupture site is not closed urgently either by open heart surgery or device' closure of the rupture site.
Such open heart surgery carries a high risk of death at the time of operation.
The patient party didn't want surgery and requested for device closure of the heart rupture site as soon as possible.
The patient was immediately admitted at SKY Hospital on November 17 and the heart rupture site was closed successfully using an 18mm diameter device.
Heni Liba started eating the next day and drinking two hours after the device closure of the heart rupture.
He is recovering very well and likely to be discharged soon.
Dr Shyamkishore Lairikyengbam, founder & Chief Cardiologist of SKY Hospital, expressed his happiness on this successful device closure intervention without which there was no chance of the patient's survival.
He appealed to the people of Manipur and other North-Eastern States to be aware of the availability of such highly sophisticated device therapy at SKY Hospital and avail such life saving opportunities for any age group of patients when required.
