Blast at Tengnoupal, none hurt

Imphal, November 17 2014: An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) went off along Imphal- Moreh section of National Highway 102 at Sita Lamkai junction near Tengnoupal Village in Chandel District early this morning.

According to the police source, the IED was exploded at around 7.10 a.m.at the site where 24 Assam Rifles regularly checked vehicles plying along the National Highway 102 and a few metres away from the 24 Assam Rifles Post of Tengnoupal.

However, there was no report of casualty due to the explosion.

After the incident, personnel of 24 Assam Rifles stationed at Tengnoupal conducted combing operation at every household of Tengnoupal Village.

On receiving the information of the incident, a team of Kuki Students Organization (KSO) Chandel District and media persons rushed to Tengnoupal and interacted with the villagers and Village Authority members besides inspecting the blast site with the police.

Meanwhile, Tengnoupal Village Authority strongly condemned the incident and demanded clarification from the responsible group or organization.

While speaking to the media persons, Lunminthang Haokip, Secretary of Tengnoupal Village Authority said that the villagers and Authority members of Tengnoupal strongly condemned the act of planting and triggering IED near the village.

Whosoever, the group or organization responsible for planting and triggering the IED should clarify itself within 2 days, the Village Secretary demanded.

He further said that it is very unfortunate that the villagers were blamed by the Assam Rifles for the incident.

Such incident had never occurred in and around the village during the past many years and the villagers also have a cordial relationship with the Assam Rifles till date, he added.

While appealing the government to investigate the incident, the Village Secretary also warned that, the villagers of Tengnoupal will launch an intense form of agitations including National Highway bandh, if the responsible group or organisation did not clarify it within the stipulated time.
