National Library/Librarian's Day observed at JNIMS, MU

Commemorating the 133rd birth anniversary of Professor SR Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India, Central Libray JNIMS and Central Library, Manipur University celebrated National Library/Librarian's Day today.
At JNIMS, the observation was marked by the inauguration of "Free Little Library", effectively launching the "Take a Book, Leave a Book" corner.
The observation of National Library/Librarian's Day 2025 was held at the hall of Central Library, JNIMS.
The event was attended by JNIMS Director Professor L Usharani as the chief guest; JNIMS Chief Librarian Dr S Sophiarani as the functional president and JNIMS Medical Superintendent Professor Kh Lokeshwor and JNIMS Dental College Principal Professor Nidarsh Hegde as the guests of honour.
On the occasion, the JNIMS Director led the gathering in offering floral tributes to the photo of the "Father of Library Movement" Professor SR Ranganathan.
A collection of news clippings gathered by the Chief Librarian of JNIMS during the COVID-19 pandemic was also released today.
Additionally, prizes for "Best Reader" were also distributed today.
The recipients were selected from people who frequent the JNIMS Central Library.
Meanwhile, the Central Library of Manipur University, in collaboration with the Department of Library Science, MU observed National Library Day 2025 at the Conference Hall of the Central Library.
As per a press release, the programme began with a welcome address by Dr Sagolsem Memori, Deputy Librarian.
The event saw the inauguration of the "Give a Book, Take a Book" Counter by Professor N Lokendra Singh., Vice Chancellor, MU in the presence of Professor Memcha Loitongbam, Dean, School of Social Sciences, MU and Professor Ch Ibohal Singh, University Librarian (i/c) .
On this occasion, Professor N Lokendra Singh also donated a book to mark the commencement of the initiative.
The "Give a Book, Take a Book" Counter will serve as a platform for book exchange, allowing interested readers to deposit a book and take another of their choice from among the donated books.
This initiative aims to foster a culture of reading, knowledge-sharing, and community engagement.
The inaugural edition of "Loushingkon", an annual publication of the Central Library, was also formally released by the VC .
