Tensions rise over Litan incidents: IDM, CPI demand Government action

Imphal, February 11 2026:
Political and civil groups have intensified calls for Government intervention on Wednesday, condemning militant arson in Litan and escalating ethnic tensions involving Kuki groups amid ongoing violence since May 2023 .
The Imphal West District Council of the Communist Party of India (CPI) has strongly denounced recent arson attacks allegedly by militants in Litan.
accusing the State Government of inaction despite heavy security deployments.
In an executive meeting held at Irawat Bhawan, presided over by Asem Sanahanba, the party executive expressed deep dissatisfaction with the Government's "silent spectator" approach to the burning of houses and properties in Litan.
The CPI leaders slammed the situation, saying it's unacceptable to witness violence in this AI era, likening it to a "dark, primitive era" .
They also questioned the Government's capability, pointing out the presence of lakhs of Central and State forces, yet the State seems "leaderless" amid widespread destruction.
The party demanded immediate, decisive action to restore law and order and protect citizens.
In a related development, the Indigenous Development Mission (IDM) appealed to the State and Central Governments over alleged aggression by "Immigrant Kuki" groups against the indigenous "Tangkhul" community in the Litan area.
In a release, the IDM voiced deep concern over the Tangkhul community's struggles in Litan, emphasizing the Meitei community's shared responsibility towards all indigenous groups, given their long-standing role in safeguarding the region.
The IDM blamed Kuki groups for the region's prolonged turmoil, pushing for State and Central Government intervention to ease the suffering of affected communities in Litan.
Both the IDM and CPI are demanding decisive action to restore law and order, protect citizens and resolve the conflict.
