Kakching hosts PACS awareness programme

A one-day awareness-cum-motivational programme for Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) was held on Monday at the office of the Representative of Lois (RoL), Kakching Chumnai Leikai.
The programme was organised by the District Cooperative Office, Kakching, in association with the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Manipur.
The event was organised to mark the completion of five years of the "Sahkar Se Samriddhi" (Prosperity Through Cooperation) initiative launched by the Ministry of Cooperation on July 6, 2021.Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Manipur, Waikhom Ibohal attended the programme as the chief guest, while District Cooperative Officer, Kakching, Mohammed Ali Mudassir presided over the function.
Deputy Registrar (Administration), Cooperative Societies, Manipur, Kshetrimayum Bikramjit attended as the guest of honour.
Presidents, vice-presidents and members of the Boards of Directors of various PACS in Kakching district also participated in the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Sub Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Kakching, Th Joychandra Meitei said the Ministry of Cooperation has introduced several new schemes and initiatives in collaboration with cooperative societies to promote collective development.
He stated that Primary Agricultural Credit Societies are being transformed into multi-sector institutions through amendments to their bye-laws to expand their scope of activities.
He said the awareness programme was organised to familiarise members and farmers with these initiatives and encourage greater coordination with government departments to improve the socio-economic condition of farmers.
Addressing the gathering, Waikhom Ibohal said cooperative societies were established to improve the welfare of poor rural farmers but have not been able to realise their full potential due to lack of public awareness and inadequate financial support from the Government.
He stressed the need for greater transparency, accountability and active public participation, while urging the government to provide sufficient funding and ensure that information on welfare schemes reaches the intended beneficiaries.
During the programme, Assistant Director of the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC), Hitesh Kewal Ramani, along with representatives from the Departments of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Horticulture, Soil Conservation and the Manipur State Cooperative Bank, attended as resource persons and interacted with farmers on various government schemes and cooperative development initiatives.
