Manipuri Short Story Festival concludes in Agartala, writers honoured with literary awards

The annual general body meeting of the Manipuri Short Story Society, India, along with the Short Story Festival, concluded on December 27, 2025 at Agartala, Tripura, marking a significant literary gathering of Manipuri writers and scholars from across Northeast.
According to a release issued by the Manipuri Short Story Society, India, the Short Story Festival was inaugurated on December 25 by former MLA of Tripura and current CLP leader Yelam Birjit Sinha who graced the occasion as chief guest.
The event was also attended by Laisom Gulap, president of Manipuri Short Story Society, India, as functional president; and Langoljam Birmangal Singha, president of the Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Tripura; Khoisnam Birla Devi, member of the Manipuri Language Advisory Board, Sahitya Academy, New Delhi; and Haobam Chitra Devi, retired Assistant Director of Manipuri Art & Culture Dept, as guests of honour.
During the event, a compilation book titled "Shivsagargi Khonthang", published by the Short Story Society, India, was also released.
This was followed by the announcement and presentation of seven prestigious awards instituted by the Society to recognise outstanding contributions to Manipuri literature.
Among the awardees, the Rajkumar Shitaljeet Lifetime Achivement Award was conferred on Haorongbam Amarendra Singha, while the Elangbam Dinamani Singh Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Haobam Priyokumar Singh.
The Moirangthem Ongbi Thiyam Ningol Madhumati Memorial International Award was awarded to Moirangthem Sobita Singha, and the Lairikyengbam Bidhi Singha Memorial International Award went to Pangsatabam Kamlakanta Singh.
The Naoroibam Dhananjay Singha Ningsing Sahitya Mana was presented to Thokchom Anjana Devi, the Maisnam Bokul Singha Ningsing Sahitya Mana to Ng Malemnganbi Chanu, and the Maharani Kuranganayani Singha Sahitya Mana to Haobam Satyabati.
The Short Story Festival witnessed participation from around 100 writers from across Manipur, Assam.
Tripura and Meghalaya.
The writers read out their original short stories, making the festival a vibrant platform for literary exchange and creative expression.
