MPP demands President's Rule in state

Imphal, March 26 2011:
Lambasting the SPF government for its failure to maintain law and order, Manipur People's Party today demanded President's Rule in the state.
The party has also submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister, Dr Manmohon Singh today.
Insisting a CBI probe into the case of murder of Irom Rojer by minister N Biren's son N Ajay, the party also demanded resignation of Biren as minister.
The demands were raised during a sit-in-protest of the leaders and workers of the MPP in front of its office near Statehood Square, Imphal.
Slogans like "Resign minister N Biren on moral ground," "Award befitting punishment to the murderer," etc.
were displayed at the protest site.
The minister's son had shot dead Irom Rojer with the high ego that he is the son of a cabinet minister, MPP leaders participating in the demonstration alleged saying that high handedness of the ministers' son and relatives are on the rise in the state.
Alleging that the SPF government has turned the state into a killing field, MPP leaders said that state is becoming a land of widows and desperate women who have lost their children in the hands of security forces and police.
Security forces are given a free rein under AFSPA and the Ibobi led SPF government is doing nothing to control the killing spree of the security forces, the party alleged.
Vice president, L Jatra said that people were scared to go with money in their pockets fearing that they would be arrested by police commandos to take their money.
He further alleged the government of issuing gun licences without proper verification.
The murder of Irom Rojer of Wangkhei Angom Leikai on March 20 by N Ajay, was a clear example of issuing a gun licence without proper verification, he said claiming that over a hundred Congress workers in Thoubal A/C possess licenced guns.
Jatra charged that CM O Ibobi Singh is the number one cheat, pointing out that the CM had cheated the teachers by assuring payment of revised pay bands as per recommendation of the sixth pay commission only to suppress their agitation after signing an agreement, only to say later that he had never agreed to the demands of the teachers.
The defeat of the Congress in the recently concluded election to the Konthoujam A/C was the beginning of the downfall of the Congress party in the state, he said.
Vice president Y Mangi alleged the SPF government of looting the people by siphoning off huge chunks of funds released for welfare and development works.
The government has failed to maintain quality control in taking up development and road improvement works.
The recent incident of a breach in the irrigation canal of the Khuga Dam is a clear example, he added.
In the memorandum which was sent to the Prime Minister's office after the sit-in-protest, the MPP alleged that Central flagship programmes were taken up in the state only on paper.
Many projects could not be completed as funds released for the purposes were siphoned off by the contractors in collusion with the ministers.
Reminding violent incidents involving police commandos, ministers like the July 23, 2009 BT road shooting incident, firing to injure the state's Advocate General by a minister and killing of a youth by a minister's son, the memorandum alleged that there is no rule of law in the state and demanded imposition of President Rule in the state with immediate effect.
