In a significant push to improve financial accessibility and depositor awareness in rural Manipur, two major outreach programmes under the Depositors Education and Awareness Fund (DEAF), ReKYC and Social Security Schemes (SSS) were successfully on November 21 in Noney and Kamjong districts.
Both camps were organised under the guidance of the State Level Bankers' Committee (SLBC), Manipur, in close coordination with district administrations.
At Rangkhung Village I in Noney, the Mega DEAF, ReKYC and Social Security Schemes (SSS) camp witnessed an encouraging participation of around 80 villagers.
As a key outcome, 15 DEAF accounts amounting to Rs 60,624 were settled on the spot, ensuring timely resolution and access to funds for beneficiaries.
Officials from the district administration and several banks, including Additional District Magistrate Stiff Khapudang; Pranab Pegu, AGM of RBI, and representatives from SBI, MRB, PNB, Canara Bank and CFL attended the event.
The camp focused on improving banking accessibility by facilitating ReKYC services, creating awareness on Social Security Schemes, and resolving long-pending DEAF accounts.
The initiative reflects continuing efforts by SLBC Manipur and partner banks to bring essential banking services closer to rural communities.
Meanwhile, at Kamjong District, a DEAF Settlement Camp was conducted as part of the fifth phase of the nationwide DEAF campaign of the Department of Financial Services (DFS), Government of India.
HL Jain, Additional District Magistrate, Kamjong, graced the event as chief guest.
Bank officials, CFL officials, representatives of MSRLM, representatives of Kamjong Katamnao Long; Self-Help Groups and villagers from neighbouring areas actively participated in the camp.
During the camp, six dormant inoperative accounts were settled, and an amount of Rs 3,200 was disbursed to rightful claimants, bringing relief and promoting financial inclusion in the remote and hilly district.
The program underscored the importance of depositor awareness and reaffirmed the commitment of banking institutions to ensure no depositor is left behind.
SLBC Manipur and the respective district administrations expressed gratitude to all stakeholders and reiterated their commitment to continuing such outreach programmes to protect depositor interests, enhance financial literacy and strengthen financial inclusion across the state.
